Yoga Bharati offers Diploma in Yoga Therapy (DYT), an extensive course in yoga and its therapeutic applications, along with a depth in yoga philosophy from the ancient scriptures of Upanishad, Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Yoga Sutras. We are affiliated to Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation (VYASA), Bangalore, a premier Yoga University in India that has conducted research on yoga and its application to various ailments such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Backpain, Asthma, Cancer, etc. SVYASA has published more than 500 research papers and these are peer reviewed, published in various international journals. This exhaustive and fulfilling course is provided and made easy for the busy working people.

  • Yoga Therapy and Philosophy Immersion Two Weekends: This is an immersion into yoga, its therapeutic aspects and philosophy aspects and get your continued education hours.

Yoga Therapy Immersion Course:

Come for a intensive weekend and short weekend of philosophy learning to get the overview of yoga as therapy along with its philosophical core. It can be a great refresher course for you.

(Applies towards Continued Education units and electives for yoga teachers, DYT, YTT, and AYTT students - as applicable); a subset of the Diploma in Yoga Therapy.

Yoga Therapy Foundation Course

This is a subset of the DYT module. It involves Module 1 - the first year of classroom hours and distance education hours. You may complete the RYT-300 certification with additional modules.

Goal: Experienced yoga teacher who has a yoga therapy background. One can start helping yoga therapy classes under senior yoga therapists. 

Scope: Yoga therapy fundamentals – anatomy and physiology, common ailments, basic medical management and yogic management of some selected common NCDs, case studies, and best practices.

UPGRADE to DYT: You can upgrade to the DYT if spots are still available (upgrade fee $250)

Diploma in Yoga Therapy (C-IAYT Accredited Course)

*Starts Fall 2024

Pre-requisites:

  • YIC/YTT (Yoga Instructors Course or Yoga Teachers Training) from Yoga Bharati (RYT-200 or equivalent)

  • Or Yoga Teacher Training from any other school with a minimum of 200 hours of training. We expect students to take our bridge course. Ask us for details.

  • And one year of personal practice and teaching experience with a minimum of 65 hours of teaching.

Module 1 - Starts Fall 2024

Dates:

  1. Intensive First weekend

  2. Monthly Half Day Weekend Sessions and Sunday Short sessions (7 am - 1.00pm PST/9am - 3.00pm CST/10am - 4.00pm EST)

  3. Shorter sessions Day Weekends (Two weekends in a month - Sun 1pm - 4pm PST/3pm - 6pm CST/4pm - 7pm EST)

    Additional training using audio, video, and reading materials will be part of the course. Assignments and quiz on a regular basis makes the program effective and engaging.

Module 2 - Workshops and Retreat

Theory and Oral Examination (Module 1) - Will be scheduled towards the end of Module 1, and further Modules will continue.

Goal

To become an experienced yoga therapist who offers yoga to address various disorders in private practice, in an institution, or in a business setup. Alternatively, one could lead yoga therapy and practice independently in hospitals or health care centers as a senior yoga therapist. 

Scope

Yoga therapy fundamentals - anatomy and physiology, common ailments, basic medical management, and yogic management, case studies, best practices; Yoga Tools such as Asanas, Pranayama, Relaxation and Meditation Techniques and their applications Integrated Approach of Yoga Therapy Concepts, Research Methodologies, Traditional Holistic Systems, and their integration with Yoga Therapy; Psychology, Yogic concept of mind, its distractions and the technique of calming down the mind; Yoga philosophy — yoga texts, their relevance to modern life and their application in yoga therapy; Exposure to most of the necessary areas such as senior yoga, prenatal, kids, care giver stress and yogic Life Coaching; Self-study (sadhana) — improving student’s own experience and practice at all levels of personality.

Module 3 - Internship at YB Therapy Centers

(Not for Yoga Therapy Foundation Course students)

The internship involves yoga therapy session delivery under guidance of a mentor. Students are required do the overall case handling - Protocol development, Documentation, Corrective measures, Pre and Post Health Analysis, Yogic Life Coaching on Happiness Analysis - Stress Factors, Notional Issues, and Corrections. Yoga Therapy meetings, workshop preparations, and involvement in the complete lifecycle of yoga therapy is a must.

  • Health assessment (shadow and assist)

  • Followup Health assessment (shadow and assist)

  • Session Delivery (shadow and assist)

  • Independent Session Delivery (under mentorship)

Internship at SVYASA, Bangalore

(Not for Yoga Therapy Foundation Course students)

The student is recommended to attend an internship program at SVYASA University in Bangalore. We ask you to attend a week or two weeks internship at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation in Bangalore, India. Sessions include yoga classes, visiting various yoga departments, and following the case studies in Arogyadhama., the health center of SVYASA University.

Module 4 - Examination Practicum Delivery, Dissertation, and Case Presentation

(Not for Yoga Therapy Foundation Course students)

This is the module where students will be requested to conduct yoga therapy sessions independently. Students are required to do the overall case handling - Protocol developed, Documentation, Corrective measures, Pre and Post Health Analysis, Yogic Life Coaching on Happiness Analysis - Stress Factors, Notional Issues, and Corrections. 

  • Oral Examination and Interview - Exams after submission of the dissertation

Certificate/Accreditation

Students receive two certificates after completion of the program.

  • Certificate from VYASA for graduating with their Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy

  • Certificate from Yoga Bharati (with IAYT accreditation). You can use this to apply with the International Association of Yoga Therapists to become IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist.

Approx 2-4 years. Modules 2 onwards is self-paced based on the calendar of workshops shared by the Yoga Bharati education dept.

Note: Sessions by experts in the field from Yoga Bharati C-IAYTs, SVYASA, Sambodh Society, and other affiliated institutions are offered for the students' enrichment of their yoga therapy tools and techniques. What is the duration of the course?

The course is brought in affiliation with Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation (VYASA), Bangalore. Mandatory classroom hours are held in different venues in the Bay Area. Distance education hours are done at your convenience and logged for our records. All the assignments and tests are to be submitted at your pace, which will then be assessed and evaluated by the faculty for grading purposes. Upon completion of all the requirements, a certificate will be issued from VYASA, and a certificate from Yoga Bharati that is eligible for International Association of Yoga Therapists certified Yoga Therapist. An average working individual should give himself/herself 3-4 years to complete the course, depending on one’s commitment and dedication.
